Quite a number of people detained said they were innocent bystanders, but the police chief said those who had been asked to leave refused to go. They facilitated the anarchists and hooligans by refusing to leave. Police officials announced overnight that people would no longer need to show identification or a security pass to move through the security perimeter. Air and marine restrictions were also lifted as the world leaders left the city. Most of those arrests occurred after a peaceful protest turned into a violent rampage through the city by a group of protesters using so-called Black Bloc techniques. Before Saturdays riot that left four police cruisers burning in the citys streets, police had only arrested 32 individuals for G20 security-related incidents. Jillian Van Acker, of the so-called Integrated Security Unit established specifically for G8-G20 summits. said some individuals continue to be released from the Eastern Ave. detention centre inside the Toronto Film Studios property on Monday. "The more I do it, the better I become," Nesbitt said in an interview following the race. Its a long way from sun-kissed May Pen, Clarendon Parish, Jamaica, to the icy surrounds of the Olympic Games Whistler Sliding Centre high up in the mountains above Vancouver. But Lascelles Browns odyssey is second to nobody. Thats because bobsledder Brown is out to become the first Jamaican to win a gold medal in the history of the Winter Olympics. The original 1988 Games incarnation of Jamaicas Cool Runnings bobsledders failed to come close to medal glory - though they did finish a creditable 14th in Lillehammer eight years later. But Browns record bears comparison with anybodys, since he garnered a two-man silver at Turin four years ago, weeks after obtaining his passport to become the first Jamaican-born athlete to stand on a Winter Games podium. A year earlier Brown had already gone one better and won gold at the world championships with veteran Pierre Lueders in Calgary and is renowned as being one of the top brakemen in the sport. "I guess I just want to prove to the world Im good at something," Brown said Thursday as he prepares to launch his renewed bid for Olympic glory alongsside Lyndon Rush, his new two-man partner since a falling-out with Lueders. Having a finely-honed muscular frame helps, of course - but Browns will to win is what drives him on and as long as theres silver-to-gold-alchemy still to achieve, there will be no let-up. "When I was a kid, if I saw somebody doing something, even if it was cooking, Id say "I can do that better than you," he told The Calgary Herald in a recent interview. Just put him in the arena and everything is transformed. "Im the nicest guy, but once I put the helmet on, Im the meanest guy. If I see a wall, Ill go through it." That ambition has been slowly building up since Brown and then teammate Winston Watt set a track push record at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games. Such celebrity brought its own reward, from an appearance on Jay Lenos Tonight Show to his transfer to a team which can make his dream of glory come true. ' ' '
