Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Bobby Abreu and Erick Aybar each homered, as
the Angels handled the Indians, 5-2, in the opener of a three-game series at

Hideki Matsui drove in a run and recorded his 1,000th career hit for the
Angels, who are 9-4 since a 2-6 start to the season. Juan Rivera also knocked
in a run for the victors.
Jered Weaver (3-0) was solid through six frames, allowing one run on seven
hits. He also fanned seven batters and walked one to lower his ERA to 2.53.
Austin Kearns went 3-for-4 with a solo homer for the Indians, who have scored
just 17 runs over the first seven games of their nine-game road trip (2-5).
Jhonny Peralta had a pair of hits and drove in a run in defeat.
David Huff (1-3) got rocked for five runs on 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings. He also
struck out four and walked one.
David was up in the zone most of the game and those guys made him pay,
Indians manager Manny Acta said. You dont want to play catchup baseball with
the way weve been swinging the bats. We had our chances.
The Angels drew first blood with three runs in the first. Aybar led off
the game with a homer, Abreu singled and Torii Hunter doubled before Matsui
hit a sac fly. Two batters later, Rivera hit an RBI base hit to right.
The Indians got a run back in the second. Russell Branyan hit a one-out double
and crossed the plate on Peraltas single to center.
Cleveland stranded runners at first and second with one out in the fourth.
After Brandon Wood led off the sixth with a base hit, Abreus two-run homer to
right-center made it a 5-1 game.
I feel a lot better at the plate. Im working the count and seeing more
pitches, Abreu said.
The Indians left the bases loaded in the seventh. Kevin Jepsen came on with
one out and struck out Travis Hafner, then got Branyan on a grounder to end
the threat.
Kearns hit a solo homer in the eighth to cut the deficit to 5-2, but thats as
close as the Tribe got. Brian Fuentes tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up his
third save of the season.
GAME NOTES:Anaheim took four of six meetings with the Indians last season and is 7-3
against Cleveland at home since the start of the 2008 campaign...Kendry
Morales, named the AL Player of the Week on Monday, had a six-game hitting
